Procedure Description:
Administration of a small dose of radioactive iodi.

What To Expect:
Once the diagnosis of hyperthryoidism (usually Graves disease or toxic nodular goiter) has been established, and the decision has been made to use radioactive iodine (RAI), this substance will be given. If you are a woman of child bearing age, you will be required to have a pregnancy test performed within 10 days of the treatment. In most cases you will be able to resume normal activity within hours after taking the treatment.

You should not have received intravenous contrast material during the preceding 3 months.

Post procedure:
You will be given a follow up appointment which is usually six weeks after the treatment.
